The Apple updates you need to know about.

Apple has just announced its schedule of releases and updates at its annual WWDC 2021 keynote.

From introducing the exciting iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 to showcasing improvements to Facetime, a much needed clean up of notifications, maps, photos, wallet and weather (finally). AI updates on all your Apple devices and of course, the perhaps disruptive security and privacy updates.

Outside of the unveiling of their new devices – here’s what we found most interesting:

For developers: Apple will let third-party accessory makers add Siri to their devices and let developers use TestFlight to test their apps on the Mac. (side note – Siri will now available offline! )

For those of us who can’t live without our Apple Watch: Apple’s upcoming watchOS 8 has new health features, including a new Mindfulness app, improvements to the Photos watch face and much more.

For those who constantly lose their Apple Airpods ( most of us!): The tech giant is making it easier to find them on the Find My network and the ability to announce your notifications.

For those of us in business and marketing:

  • Apple’s new Live Text will digitise text in your images online, which can let you copy and paste text from a photo, for example, or call a phone number that’s in a snap. Apple says it uses “on-device intelligence” for the feature. – Where will this take us in Marketing?
  • The latest privacy updates focus on keeping brands from tracking you when you don’t want them to. The new Mail Privacy Protection option can hide your IP address and location from senders and prevents them from seeing if or when you’ve opened their message. Helping to keep those spammy marketing emails you get from tracking your daily internet usage.
  • Apple is also rolling out an App Privacy Report, which gives you an overview of how and when apps use the permissions you’ve granted them, such as how often they’ve accessed your contacts, microphone or camera.

For those of us who spend way too much time on our phones: Apple announced – SharePlay, which allows you to watch and listen to various content in sync with any friends or family members that you share it with. SharePlay will work with first-party apps like Music, Apple TV+ and Disney+, TikTok, Hulu, and more when iOS 15 launches.
