This year TikTok hit 1 Billion Users! – joining only 5 other social media accounts that have reached this milestone – Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger and WeChat.

There are now more than 4.5 billion social media users around the world. That’s more than 400 million higher than it was this time last year.

Everyone can now add links to Instagram Stories (regardless of follower count). As of October 27th, all users globally could add links to Instagram Stories.

Welcome to the new era of Facebook — Meta – the new corporate name of the parent company behind Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus is Meta.

This year Pinterest unveiled new shopping features for its advertisers.

The new kid on the block – ClubHouse now has 10 million registered users in 2021.

Also, Clubhouse is no longer invite-only. With the recent Android version release, all can join the audio-only app, with no invitation required.

Google added short-form videos from TikTok and Instagram to search results.

YouTube introduced audio ads to connect brands with audiences engaged in non-video consumption.

IGTV is out – Instagram announced that IGTV and feed videos are now combined into one format: Instagram Video.
After a year of testing in 2020 – hiding like counts is here to stay on Instagram.

Twitter announced the rollout of a new monetization tool — Super Follows. Select creators will now be able to share subscriber-only content and collect a monthly payout.

We said hello and goodbye to Linkedin Stories in 2021.

In July, Reddit started selling NFTs (non-fungible tokens), and it’s successful.
